Trojans Use Special Teams, Defensive Touchdown’s to Spoil LHNE’s Homecoming

NORFOLK – Lutheran High Northeast hosted Hartington Cedar Catholic Saturday afternoon in a district showdown at Memorial Field in Norfolk.

The Eagles got things going early with an impressive drive to open the game and cap it off with a 4-yard touchdown run from Korrell Koehlmoos to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead on Homecoming. The PAT was no good.

From there, it was all Hartington CC.

The Trojans scored on their first drive of the game to finish off a 64-yard drive with a 1-yard quarterback sneak from Dain Whitmire to give Hartington CC the 7-6 lead.

The offense wasn’t the only unit scoring on Saturday for Cedar Catholic. Jason Becker returned a interception 56-yards for a touchdown just before halftime to help extend the Trojans lead.

LHNE was able to add a 32-yard field goal from Matt Becker before halftime to cut it to a 10-point lead for Cedar Catholic, 19-9.

To begin the second half, sophomore sensation Jacob Keiser returned the opening kick-off 80 yards for a touchdown to extend their lead 26-9.

On the ensuing kick-off, Korrell Koehlmoos (LHNE) fumbled on the kick return to give Cedar Catholic great field position at the 30-yard line inside LHNE territory. A few plays later, Jackson Eickhoff capped off a short drive with a 11-yard touchdown to extend the Trojans lead that would eventually be too much for LHNE to overcome.

Cedar Catholic beats LHNE 40-16 as the Trojans improve to 6-0 and the Eagles drop to 4-2 on the season.

Jacob Keiser led all players with 162 yards rushing and a touchdown in the win along with the kick return for a touchdown.

Hartington CC will be back at home on Friday to host Crofton while Lutheran High Northeast will be on the road to take on Battle Creek.
