WAKEFIELD – Eight varsity high school volleyball teams were back in Wakefield Saturday for the second-day of the Wayne Volleyball Invitational.
Pool A scores from the Main gym found Homer defeating Wakefield in two-sets (26-24, 25-23) while Hartington Cedar Catholic swept Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons Decatur (25-10, 25-4).
Pool B scores from the Activity Center saw Lutheran High Northeast win over Ponca in two-sets (25-23, 25-16) as Pierce swept Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (25-19, 25-18).
Moving into the consolation bracket, LCC swept Homer (25-13, 25-16) while Pierce swept Wakefield (25-20, 25-16). Wakefield took seventh place after defeating Homer in two-sets (25-20, 25-22) as Pierce swept LCC for fifth place (25-13, 26-24).
From the championship bracket, Hartington Cedar Catholic defeated Ponca in three sets (25-27, 25-17, 25-16) as LHNE swept BRLD (25-19, 25-16). Ponca took third in a three-set win over BRLD (25-14, 16-25, 25-20) while HCC was crowned Wakefield Invite Champions after defeating Lutheran High Northeast in three-sets (20-25, 25-16, 30-28).
