Wayne High Girls Hit 12 Three-Pointers In Road Win, Blue Devil Boys Slow Start Causes Near 40-Point Defeat

HOOPER – The Wayne High girls and boys basketball team has now faced at least one team in Class B, C1 and C2 following Tuesday night’s game at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

From Logan View High School near Hooper, the Raiders played host to the Blue Devils for a Class C1 showdown.

In the girls contest, Wayne High jumped out to a 19-10 first quarter lead before extending their lead with a 23-11 second. At the break, WHS led LV/SS 42-21. The Raiders were only able to score eight points in each of the second half quarters as the Blue Devils tallied 19 points in the third and another 18 in the fourth. The Wayne High girls have now won two straight following the 79-37 win to sit 2-1 as the Raiders fall to 0-3.

Junior Ashton Boyer paced all scorers with 25 points off 9-13 shooting from the field, including 7-10 from behind the arc. Sophomore Frankie Klausen added 16 points, hitting four three-pointers while grabbing a team-high five rebounds as junior Gabi Meyer and senior Kylie Hammer each added 12 points. Seniors Jenna Trenhaile and Jamie Gamble each caroled four rebounds.

Junior Shaylin Daugherty paced the Raiders in scoring with 11 points.

From the boys game, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder didn’t allow Wayne High to score until late in the first quarter, which ended at 17-2. The Raiders added to the gap with a 16-5 second quarter, making the score 33-7 at the break. After Logan View/Scribner-Snyder won the third quarter, 26-7, WHS found some scoring in the fourth to win the quarter 13-6. But, the final found LV/SS taking down Wayne High 65-27 to open their season at 3-0 as Wayne High is now 1-2.

Junior Marcus Fertig and sophomore Shea Sweetland each scored seven points to pace Wayne High. Senior Jack Evetovich followed with five points.

Senior Jacob Polk led all scorers with 28 points, going 9-10 at the foul line in three quarters. Senior Ben Moxness added 17 points for LV/SS.
