Wildcat Baseball Records Neutral Site Split With BSU

YANKTON, S.D. – With predicted rain around northeast Nebraska Friday afternoon the Wayne State vs. Bemidji State NSIC baseball double header was relocated.

From Riverside Park in Yankton, South Dakota Bemidji State led early with single runs in the third and fourth innings. BSU then outscored the ‘Cats 5-1 in the fifth to lead 7-1. The Beavers brought in one run in the sixth and WSC could only manage a run in the bottom of the seventh to fall 8-2.

Freshman Jackson Petersen recorded a pair of doubles to lead WSC at the plate to go along with a single. Senior Cody Jenkins doubled during one of his two hits as senior Aaron Krier singled and added a RBI.

Senior Bobby St. Pierre suffered the loss (4-3) in four and two-thirds of an inning allowing seven earned runs off of eight hits while walking three batters and striking out one. Senior Joey Lenihan worked an inning allowing one run off of one hit while walking a batter. Junior Dalton Smith pitched an inning and a third allowing a hit while striking out two batters and walking one.

From the second contest, the ‘Cats scored a run in the first and brought four more in the second to lead 5-0. Bemidji State then took the lead with a six run third, but Wayne State regained the lead with a seven run fifth. Down 12-6, the Beavers then scored a run in the sixth as the ‘Cats answered back with a run in the eighth to win 13-7. With the split WSC is now 16-18 (11-11 NSIC) while Bemidji State fell to 12-20 (9-11 NSIC).

Krier led WSC at the plate with a double, two-run homer and five RBI’s. Freshman Peyton Barnes added a pair of doubles with two RBI’s while Jenkins singled twice. Junior Tanner Simons also doubled.

Senior Keenan Breen picked up the win (3-0) in three innings allowing an earned run off of three hits while striking out one batter. Freshman Hunter Wienhoff started the game and worked two and two-thirds innings allowing six runs (three earned) off of three hits while striking out one batter.

Wayne State College and Bemidji State are scheduled to play at Noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday from the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne.
