Wildcat Football Strikes First, Sioux Falls Answers With 31 Straight Points

WAYNE – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Thursday night game of the week took place in Wayne featuring #18 Sioux Falls at Wayne State College.

Wayne State entered the game with their second two-game winning streak of the season while the Cougars were coming off a home loss just five days ago.

The Wildcat football team put points on the board late in the first quarter, but the USF offense was too much in a 31-7 win for Sioux Falls. The Cougars improve to 6-1 (2-1 South) while Wayne State College is now 4-3 (2-1 South).

The scoring column began for WSC when senior quarterback Zach Osborn connected with sophomore wideout Sam Wegner on a 49-passing touchdown.

WSC led 7-0 until the second quarter came and USF scored 17 points. Jason Towns carried the ball in from 40 yards out while Winston Maxwell added a one-yard rushing touchdown. Following a late field goal, USF held a 17-7 lead at the half.

The WSC defense held USF to just 14 more points while the offense was shutout. Colton Myles scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown while Maxwell added his second rushing touchdown (two-yards).

Osborn finished the game 8-28 for 145 yards with one TD while sophomore Aaron Bleil went 2-4 for 25 yards. Wegner caught two passes for 89 yards with one score followed by senior wideout Nate Rogers recorded four receptions for 52 yards. Senior Rashad Trimble was limited to 23 yards off of 11 carries.

Defensively, sophomore defensive back Ian Ailts had 10 tackles (four solo) to go along with a tackle for loss. Senior linebacker DeWayne Scott added seven tackles (five solo) and three tackles for loss while senior linebacker Emeka Etta tacked on nine tackles (five solo), one tackle for loss and an assisted sack with Scott.

Wayne State College is back on the road next Saturday, October 21 at #13 Winona State. WSC will kickoff at 2 p.m.
