WAYNE – After splitting a pair of NSIC games this past weekend, the Wayne State College men’s basketball team was right back at home Tuesday evening where they’ll play five games in 11 days.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, WSC played host to Nebraska Christian College. Wayne State College shot 57.1% from the floor and jumped out to a 40-24 first half lead. WSC added to their margin with a 46-23 second half score for a final of 86-47 to improve to 6-3 on the season. It was an exhibition game for Nebraska Christian College.
Four Wildcats hit double figure scoring as senior guard Brian Goodwin led the team with 14 point and six rebounds followed by transfer junior guard Trevin Joseph Jr. adding 12 points and three steals. Sophomore center Tony Bonner tallied 10 points and six rebounds while junior guard Vance Janssen tacked on another 10 points and three assists.
WSC shot 31-60 (51.7%) from the field, 6-17 (35.3%) from behind the arc and 18-29 (62.1%) from the foul line. The ‘Cats recorded 17 assists to 11 turnovers while adding six blocked shots and nine steals.
The Wayne State men will join the women’s basketball team for NSIC North opponents this Friday, December 8 with University of Mary at 6/8 p.m. and Saturday, December 9 against Minot State at 4/6 p.m. The Wildcat men will also have non-conference games next Monday, December 11 with Mount Marty College and Friday, December 15 hosting Morningside.
