WSC Men’s Basketball Outscored 33-19 In Second Half Of Exhibition Contest With Wright State

DAYTON, OH – The Wayne State College men’s basketball team had their season begin with an exhibition contest at Wright State of Ohio Friday evening.

In Dayton, Ohio, the tie between the Wildcats and Raiders is of senior guard Tyler Nagy from WSC’s father, Scott Nagy is the head coach at Wright State.

Wayne State College kept it close at half, only trailing by one point at 40-39. Wright State then pulled away in the second half with a 33-19 score for a final, 73-58 in favor of Wright State during the Wildcat exhibition game.

Senior forward Jordan Cornelius was the team leader for WSC with 12 points and four rebounds while sophomore center Tony Bonner added 10 points, two block shots and two steals. Junior forward Kendall Jacks tacked on nine points and three rebounds, followed by five points and three boards from junior guard Trevin Joseph Jr. and senior guard Austin Esters tacked on four points and four rebounds.

Senior guard Brian Goodwin, senior guard Matt Thomas, senior point guard Tayler Nagy, junior guard Vance Janssen, sophomore guard Luke Terhark and senior guard JJ Zumbrennen all scored three points.

Wayne State College shot 22-58 (37.9%) from the field, 10-28 (35.7%) from behind the arc and 4-6 (66.7%) from the foul line.

Wright State tallied 26-56 (46.4%) from the field, 7-18 (38.9%) from the three-point line and 14-18 (77.8%) from the charity stripe.

Three Raiders posted double figure scoring with two adding double digit rebounds from Justin Mitchell (23 points and 12 boards), Mark Hughes (21 points) and Loudon Love (17 points and 12 rebounds).

Wayne State College is back in action next weekend with two contests against in-state rivals Nebraska-Kearney. First, on Friday, November 10 the ‘Cats will play at UNK at 7 p.m. then two days later on Sunday, November 12, the Lopers come to Wayne for a 3 p.m. tip off.
