WSC Soccer Records Fourth Draw On Season, Goes 1-0-1 Over Weekend

ABERDEEN, SD – The Wayne State College women’s soccer team had an off-day Saturday into their Sunday afternoon match with the Northern State University Wolves.

From Aberdeen, South Dakota, Northern State played host to Wayne State College during a NSIC soccer match.

For the third time in league play and fourth time on the season, the Wildcats went into double overtime.

Junior Christina Stasi struck first 11 minutes into the game on a header off an assist from junior Samantha Phillips to give the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead. That lead held into the half, but in the 59th minute Northern State answered (59:09) with a goal to tie the game at 1-1.

That would be the final, as each team only put one shot on goal in the double overtime draw. Wayne State College is now 3-3-4 (2-2-3 NSIC) while Northern State is now 3-5-1 (2-4-1 NSIC).

Sophomore Madison Burgard put two of her three shots on goal as freshman Rylie Wehner took the most shots, four. Freshman Shelby Bullard, sophomore Carleigh Wilson and junior Brooke Buzzell each had a shot on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Grisham allowed one goal and recorded two saves in 110 minutes of work.

As a team WSC out shot NSU, 16-15 (5-2 on goal). Wayne State took 10 shots in the opening half when they scored their lone goal. Northern State attempted 13 corner kicks compared to the ‘Cats five.

Wayne State College will next host Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday, October 6 at 2 p.m. while visiting Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, October 8 at 1 p.m.
