WSC Women Close Out Division II CCA Tip-off Classic With 99-Point Performance

ORANGE, CA – After the Wayne State College women’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season, the ‘Cats came out dominate during their third contest in three days.

Sunday afternoon was the final game from Santiago Canyon College in Orange, California a part of the Division II CCA Tip Off Classic.

Wayne State College took control early against Wisconsin Parkside with a 32-14 first quarter and 20-14 second. WSC led 52-27 at the break. The ‘Cats again posted a 29-10 third quarter before Wisconsin Parkside edged WSC in the fourth, 19-18. Final found Wayne State College winning 99-56 to improve to 2-1 on the season while the Rangers fall to 0-3.

Freshman forward Erin Norling led four Wildcats in double figures with 19 points. Junior forward Andrea Larson followed with 14 points, senior forward Maggie Schulte added 13 and senior guard Kacie O’Connor tallied another 11. Senior Paige Ballinger posted a team-high in rebounds with seven along with six points as freshman center Brittany Bongartz tacked on eight points and six rebounds. Freshman reserve point guard Halley Busse recorded nine points.

As a team, the ‘Cats shot 40-72 (55.6%) from the field, 8-16 (50%) from behind the arc and 11-15 (73.3%) from the charity stripe.

Wisconsin Parkside was led by Carolina Rahkonen with 12 points followed by Ali Bettencourt with 10 points.

The Wayne State College women’s basketball team will compete against in-state rivals, Nebraska-Kearney this Saturday, November 11 at 4 p.m.
