Wynot Wins Close Battle Over Falls City Sacred Heart in Class D-2

LINCOLN, NE — The  Wynot Blue Devils forced 20 turnovers and survived a late comeback attempt by the Falls City Sacred Heart Irish to capture the Class D-2 Championship with a 39-38 win.

Katelyn Heine nailed a three-pointer just before the first-half buzzer to cap off an 18-point quarter and give the Blue Devils a 25-13 lead at halftime.

They held down the Irish in the third quarter but Falls City Sacred Heart made a late push.  They outscored Wynot 17-9 in the final quarter but came up just short.  They had a chance down one point with ball underneath Wynot’s basket and 1.4 seconds left.  The shot was long and was a fraction after the buzzer.

The championship is Wynot’s seventh in program history.  The two schools have now combined for the last nine D-2 titles.
