COZAD – The Lexington Minutemen ended the Cozad Haymakers five game winning streak with a 35-12 win at Haymaker Stadium on Friday night.
Cozad was able to capitalize on an early Lexington fumble to score a touchdown in the first quarter, but it was all Lexington from that point on. The Minutemen took advantage of three Cozad turnovers within the final three minutes of the second quarter, scoring three quick touchdowns to go up 21-6 at halftime.
Lexington was able to add on two more touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 35-6 lead, as quarterback Jacob Leger threw for two scores and ran for another. Cozad put up one more score early in the fourth quarter, but were unable to mount a comeback against the Class B Minutemen.
The win improves Lexington to 3-5, and they will play their final game of the year at home next Friday night against the Alliance Bulldogs. The Haymakers fall to 5-3 with the loss, and will need to have a short memory as they will take on the Adams Central Patriot next Thursday night to determine the Class C1 District 6 Champion.
