Man fatally shot during chase involving three cars in Council Bluffs

Council Bluffs police say one person is dead following a chase involving three cars.

According to KMTV, one of the cars had been reported stolen in Omaha Monday morning, was spotted in the afternoon and was being chased when its driver was shot.

The shooting occurred about 5:20 p.m. at Ninth Avenue and South Main Street, according to Bluffs police. The cars came to a stop four blocks farther down Main Street at Fifth Avenue.

Police said friends of the owner of the stolen car located it, chased after it and started shooting.

“At some point, shots were fired from one car into another,” Council Bluffs Police Sgt. Dale Schmitz said.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was struck by gunfire.

Police were not involved in the shooting.
