BEATRICE – Barneston Rural Firefighters were sent to a fire in a vehicle, late Monday afternoon.

According to Southeast Communications Emergency dispatch traffic, a woman called to say the door in her van was on fire.  The woman and other occupants were able to get out of the vehicle safely.   They told emergency personnel that they disconnected the vehicle’s battery.    

The call reporting the fire came in at around 4:35 p.m.  The vehicle’s location when the fire began was near South 108th and East Willow Road, two miles south of Barneston, or about a mile north of the Nebraska-Kansas state line.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much damage was done.
