Highways reopened after fire near Concord causes significant closures
CONCORD, Neb. -- Firefighters across multiple counties were contending with wind and heavy smoke while battling a blaze in rural Dixon County Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was located approximately five miles south of Concord and three miles east of Highway 15.
Initial reports stated that a combine was on fire in a field. Fire units from several towns across Wayne, Dixon and Cedar Counties were called to the scene.
A News Channel Nebraska reporter on scene described heavy smoke significantly limiting visibility.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation said a portion of Highway 15 was closed between Wayne and Laurel. Highway 116 from Highway 20 to Highway 15 was also closed.
Both roadways were reopened before 7:30 p.m., with fire crews still on the scene late Wednesday evening, according to the Cedar County Sheriff's Office.
