Gage County Authorizes Application for Tire Collection Grant
BEATRICE - Gage County has authorized a grant application for another tire amnesty event, where people can dispose of old used tires at the Gage County Fairgrounds parking area.
Retired Extension Educator, Paul Hay, says the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality moved up the application period by six months for the amnesty. If the grant is received, it would be held in August of 2020.

The environmental grant helps pay for a company to haul the mountains of tires away to be recycled. Locally, it is a cooperative project between Keep Beatrice Beautiful and the Gage County Extension Service.
County Board Chairman Erich Tiemann said it's been a really great service for the area. The tire collection is for Gage County residents, but Hay says in some cases, tires brought in from just outside the county haven't been turned away.

A grant received from the N-D-E-Q allowed up to 375 tons of tires to be collected, last August.
