Crofton Juniors Use Big Innings to Beat South Sioux City
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE - The Crofton Juniors scored 11 runs in two innings and beat Siouxland Bank (South Sioux City) 14-7 on Saturday morning at Voss Field.
South Sioux City grabbed an early 2-0 lead on consecutive doubles by Chris Love and Peyton Hiserode in the first inning. Crofton starter Peyton Wieseler settled in after the first, blanking SSC the next two innings.
Crofton heated up in the third. Roy Knapp and Jack Kuchta notched back-to-back singles to start the inning. Crofton continued to roll and sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning. They scored seven runs on four hits and two errors to take a 7-2 lead.
Crofton stretched the advantaged to 9-2 before SSC scrapped a couple runs off Wieseler in the bottom of the fourth.
South Sioux City got its closest after the bottom of the fifth. The team recorded two singles to start the frame and Caleb Kriens knocked a double to continue the damage. They trimmed the deficit to 10-7.
Crofton pulled away again in the top of the seventh. The Juniors had five straight batters reach base and scored four runs to make it 14-7.
