Sherman County standoff ends with suicide

GRAND ISLAND - A standoff with law enforcement in Sherman County lasted for more than two hours before ending with the suspect taking his own life on Monday.
The Nebraska State Patrol says around 8:30 Monday night, Sherman County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a suspicious person in the area of Highway 92 and 472 B Avenue.
After finding the person, authorities identified him as 23-year-old Trevor Jorgensen of Lincoln.
The NSP says he was armed with a gun and fired several rounds at the deputies.
Nebraska State Patrol Troopers arrived soon after.
Around two hours later, Jorgensen exited the tree line, turned the rifle on himself, and committed suicide.
No shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident and no officers were injured.
