Grand View dominates Peru State
(Peru, Neb.) – The Grand View Vikings volleyball team showed Peru State why it was one of the top-ranked teams in the NAIA Tuesday night. The Vikings swept the Bobcats in about an hours' time to win its 25th game of the season.
Grand View improved to 25-9 overall and more importantly for the Vikings, they are now 17-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). The win secures Grand View with at least the top seed from the North Division and the top overall seed.
The Vikings won the match 25-14, 25-9, 25-19.
Outstanding defense, mainly by Grand View blocking, held the Bobcats to a negative hitting percentage at -.041. The Vikings on the other hand had an impressive .326 hitting percentage.
Claire Cudney (Marysville, Kan.) led the team with six kills. Cassandra Davis led the team with ten assists.
With the loss Peru State fell to 10-22 on the season and 6-9 in the Heart. The 'Cats have three matches left and the outcome of each will determine whether or not the Bobcats will enter postseason play.
On Friday night, the Bobcats will face Clarke (Iowa) at 7 p.m. in the Al Wheeler Activity Center. The Pride are one of the teams ahead of the 'Cats and presently are 24-7 overall and 11-5 in Heart play. This will be the Bobcats' "Dig Pink" night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and donate to breast cancer awareness.
