Sara Huss hits winning layup, Fairbury upsets No. 3 Beatrice Tuesday

FAIRBURY - Fairbury girls' basketball had played five ranked opponents prior to Tuesday's meeting with Beatrice.
Fairbury coach Lyle Thompson called Tuesday's bout with the third-ranked Lady O "another opportunity" to upend a ranked team.
Sixth time a charm, apparently.
Fairbury senior and Concordia (Seward) volleyball/track commit Sara Huss hit a layup with roughly two seconds to go, lifting the Jeffs (5-6) past Beatrice, 33-31, at Fairbury Jr./Sr. High School on Tuesday.
The win was Fairbury's fourth straight, and it was the Jeffs' first win over the Orange in girls' hoops since Feb. 7, 2014.
Fairbury also won that game by two, 57-55, on their home floor.
Huss, who hit the walk-off shot, led the way with a game-high 17 points after missing her first five shots and going scoreless in the first quarter.
Sophomore Karly McCord, who also hit some clutch shots late, ended up with 11 points.
The game was tight from start to finish, with Beatrice taking a slim 15-13 lead into halftime. There were a total of nine lead changes and four ties throughout the night.
Beatrice led 22-20 entering the fourth, but the Jeffs started the final quarter on a 7-0 run, and never lost the lead after that.
The Lady O (6-2), who saw a five-game win streak come to an end, were never out of contention, thanks to their three-point shooting.
Three-pointers from Addison Barnard and Mak Hatcliff in the fourth kept Beatrice alive until the very end.
Beatrice hit six total threes in the game, while Fairbury made none. Barnard led her team with eight points. Nevaeh Martinez had six. Carley Leners and Olivia Aden each scored five.
Six different players on Beatrice's side made a three, but the Lady O made only five two-point buckets all game long, resulting in a season-low scoring output.
Beatrice heads to Seward on Friday. Fairbury will stay home to take on Tri County Thursday.
