Aaron Kirts makes second court appearance this week
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. KNOP-TV A North Platte man charged with resisting to avoid arrest on a separate case was back in Lincoln County Court Thursday.
Aaron Kirts is accused of leading law enforcement on a seven hour manhunt Monday night.
He appeared before Judge Joel Jay to face aiding and abetting robbery charges.
The 37-year-old is accused of assaulting and robbing Katie Smith Sunday night.
The charge is a Class II A Felony and is punishable up to fifty years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
He also faces a habitual crime charge to which he's been convicted and sentenced to prison twice.
Judge Jay says the habitual crime charge is not an additional charge, but rather a sentencing enhancement.
The charge carries a minimum of ten years in prison and a maximum of sixty years in the department of corrections.
Kirts is due back in court for a contested preliminary hearing on March 19th at 10 a.m.
Kirts was in court earlier this week where he was charged with resisting arrest at Kansas Point Campground Monday night.
The charge is a Class III A Felony and is punishable up to three years in prison, a ten thousand dollar fine or both.
