NORFOLK - Two Madison residents are behind bars after police say one stole a car and both were found with drugs.

Norfolk Police say a car dealership reported that 19-year-old Nathaniel Mahlin paid for a vehicle with a $27,000 check. The dealership says the check was written from a closed account. The dealership told authorities that Mahlin would not write a cashier's check or return the car.  The Madison County Sheriff's Office recovered the vehicle and returned it.

On Tuesday, police say officers stopped a car driven by 24-year-old Damian Hess. Mahlin was a passenger. Officers say they found meth, a concealed pistol and a knife in the car.

Both men face drugs and weapons charges. Mahlin is also charged with theft.
