Oakdale man sentenced to 30-40 years for child abuse
NELIGH, NE — An Oakdale man will spend decades in prison after authorities say he seriously injured his infant child.
21-year-old Cristofer Carstens was sentenced to 30-40 years in prison during a hearing in Antelope County District Court on Wednesday. He pleaded no contest to felony child abuse in February.
The accusations date back to an incident from May of last year when Carstens' one-month old daughter was taken to a hospital after suffering seizures.
Doctors told police the baby girl had several broken bones and a skull fracture. Witnesses told police that Carstens delayed taking the baby to the hospital, insisting she was only suffering from allergies.
In court documents, authorities say Carstens later admitted to shaking the baby.
