Teenager accused in Fairbury shooting charged with three felonies

FAIRBURY, NE — A 17-year-old accused of shooing a man multiple times at a Fairbury home faces three felony charges.
Jake Gonzalez of Fairbury is charged with first-degree assault and two weapons charges. Authorities say he repeatedly shot a 31-year-old man, identified in court records as Lance Powers, at a house in the 1000 block of 4th St. The incident happened around 9:00 p.m. on May 18th. Powers was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Lincoln.
Authorities say Gonzalez fled the scene and was eventually arrested in Lincoln with the help of other agencies. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t named Gonzalez as the suspect but the charges and location match the described crime.
Gonzalez’s bond is set at $500,000. He is scheduled for a status hearing in Jefferson County Court on June 3.
