CRETE, NE — You can add the Saline County Fair to the list of Nebraska fairs canceling due to health concerns.

The Saline County Agricultural Society announced Tuesday that it is canceling all public events for this year’s fair, which was scheduled for July 14-19.  Fair Board President Kent Musil says it wasn’t an easy decision.

“We all felt as a board, with the requirements of the CDC, that we just didn’t have the manpower to take care of all that,” Musil said.

In a statement, the Ag Society said it was unable to ensure that it could meet all of the safety precautions in the current Directed Health Measures.

The Ag Society says it will work with the Saline County Extension Office to find ways for 4-H and FFA members to show their projects.

Saline County joins a growing list of Nebraska counties canceling some or all fair activities because of the pandemic.  Nearby Fillmore and Gage counties have also canceled their fairs.
