Latest drought monitor shows expansion of dry conditions across Nebraska

Drought conditions across the Cornhusker state continue to spread.
The most recent U.S. Drought Monitor, published every Thursday by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, shows over 98 percent of Nebraska's land is in some sort of abnormally dry conditions.
Last week, about 87 percent of the state was in drought conditions. Only a small sliver of land in Thayer, Jefferson, Saline, and Lancaster counties is not at least abnormally dry, according to the drought monitor.
Extreme drought conditions expanded slightly in the Nebraska Panhandle as that portion of the state continues to deal the driest forecasts across the state.
Across Nebraska, the only possibility for rain through Wednesday, October 7, is a slight chance in eastern Nebraska on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
