Beatrice consolidated Covid-19 testing site seeing a lot of traffic
BEATRICE – A Test Nebraska site at the Gage County Fairgrounds continues to test about 70-to-100 people a day for Covid-19.
The site operates Monday and Thursday, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm…and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am until noon.
Registered Nurse Amber Beekman is a case manager at Beatrice Community Hospital. She says people who are properly registered for the test can go through the drive-up site in two-to-three minutes. With case numbers rising in the area, Beekman says its important for people to take precautions.
"It's stressful as a nurse, but I think the hospital is doing a great job of handling it. As nurses, we just all ask you to wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance...stay out of crowded areas if you can't wear a mask".
Beekman feels more people are beginning to see the value of taking precautions and helping prevent spread of the virus. "I think it's really starting to hit home in our community. People are very sick and in the hospitals. Some are recovering. Some aren't."
Those testing at the fairgrounds drive through the main entrance and exit next to the Gage County Extension Office. Test results are usually known within three days.
