Scottsbluff City Council selects new mayor

The Scottsbluff City Council held a meeting and selected Councilwoman Jeanne McKerrigan to be the next mayor.

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The Scottsbluff City Council held a meeting and selected Councilwoman Jeanne McKerrigan to be the next mayor. Also sworn in as city council members were Angela Scanlan and Jordan Colwell. Outgoing Mayor Raymond Gonzalez and outgoing Councilman Scott Shaver received plaques to honor them for their contributions to the city council.

McKerrigan says, “I am really excited I’ve always been involved in the community, and I look forward serving the citizens of Scottsbluff and doing great things for them.”

The newly elected council members dug right in with current council and approved of several measures in the agenda.

“This is something of course I’ve never done before and I am feeling really grateful for the support of the community and also of my council members here,” said Angela Scanlan City Councilwoman. “This has been a first good meeting and I would say we were able to move some things through some new developments and make sure some thing s were paid for the city and that’s what we’re here for.”

“I just want to build on that and continue to grow the community the business district and amenities for our children and other citizens within the city limits,” said McKerrigan.

Scottsbluff has many small businesses and the council wants to help them thrive.

“I definitely want to uphold that as well as the health of small businesses in our area and so anything that we can do to improve the lives of our business owners the people that work for them that’s going to be very positive,” said Scanlan.
