Kimball Public Schools makes changes to finals and sports schedules
KIMBALL, NE — A school district in the southern Nebraska panhandle is keeping their options open for finals week.
Kimball Public Schools has announced they will offer finals both in-person and online to end the fall semester. The changes affect the schedule for grades 7-12 and are a result of rising COVID-19 cases in the district and community, according to superintendent Trevor Anderson.
School officials say in-person attendance during the district's finals week of Dec. 14-18, will not be mandatory. Assessments will be offered at the Jr/Sr High School or online via Canvas.
In addition, all activities and sports contests scheduled for Kimball's finals week will be postponed or canceled. The elementary concert scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 15 will be postponed until after Winter break.
The letter sent to parents also says students in grades 7-12 will not be required to take finals. Test scores will be able to raise a student's grade, but not lower it. All finals will be available throughout finals week, but tests will not be accepted after 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 18. Any incomplete or missing assignments must be turned in by then as well.
Finals will be offered in English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Assessments in other subjects are at the teacher's discretion and will be communicated in advance to students in those courses.
The Jr/Sr high school will continue with in-person instruction through Friday, Dec. 11. Students at Mary Lynch Elementary will continue in-person through the Dec. 18.
If a student is completing tests online, but still wants a meal, they must contact the school by 9:00 a.m. the day they want the meal. Once ordered, meals can be picked up from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the east side of the high school.
