OMAHA, Neb. -- A casino in Omaha could possibly be up and running before the end of the year.

That comes from a spokesman for the Warhorse Casino at what is now
Horseman’s Park in south-central Omaha.

Although voters approved the casinos in November, several steps remain in the way.

State officials say that Gov. Pete Ricketts has to appoint two people to the current Nebraska Racing Commission, which will then be converted into the new Gaming Commission and will then draft the state’s new casino rules and regulations.

Casino officials in Omaha say they are also developing a full-blown casino and hotel at the Lincoln Race Course on the far southwest side of town.
