Bridgeport man gets jail time in motor vehicle homicide case that killed his brother
BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport man was sentenced Monday to 24 to 36 months in prison after pleading no contest to a Class 3A felony charge of willful reckless motor vehicle homicide in January.
Judge Andrea Miller handed down the sentence in Morrill District County Court, which also included 18 months of post release supervision.
According to court records, Trey Brown, 28, was driving a car at a high-rate of speed Highway 92 east of Bridgeport when he slammed into the back of a pickup driven by his brother, Josh Brown, 21, in early July. The crash killed Josh.
During their investigation, the Nebraska State Patrol found multiple empty and broken alcohol containers on the highway and around both wrecked vehicles. Trey said his son was in the car at the time of the accident.
Motor vehicle homicide and manslaughter felony charges, along with negligent child abuse without injury, were dropped in exchange for Brown's plea.
