Two Narrow Victories in Tabor
TABOR- Points were at a premium in a double header between Fremont-Mills and Sidney, but big fourth quarters in both games proved to be the deciding factor.
In the girls side of the double header, it was a back and forth contest from start to finish. Fremont-Mills was leading after the first quarter 12-7, but gave up a 15-6 run in the second quarter and found themselves in a hole at the half.
The second half the knights played catch up with the cowgirls and came into the fourth quarter trailing by one point, 29-28. The fourth quarter swung in favor of the knights as they regained the lead with less than four minutes left in the ball game.
Fremont-Mills would hang on to win 42-37 behind freshman Izzy Weldon's game high 20 points.
Sidney was led in scoring by sophomore Avery Dowling with 12 points.
The second game of the night provided just as many fireworks at the end of the game as the previous one.
Sidney led Fremont-Mills 13-10 after the first quarter, but the knights dominated the second quarter with a 16-8 run to lead 26-21 at the break. Juniors Garett Phillips and Cole Jorgenson both led the cowboys offensively with 8 points. The knights were led in the first half by senior Cooper Langfelt and sophomore Taylor Reed with 8 points.
The second half of the game featured another game of cat and mouse, but the fourth quarter was once again where fans saw a lead slip away.
Fremont-Mills started the fourth quarter leading 35-31, but clutch free throws by Jorgenson would wrap a bow on a Sidney victory 47-44 in Tabor.
Sidney scoring was led by Jorgenson with 19 points and Phillips with 12 points.
Fremont-Mills was led in scoring by Langfelt with 18 points and Reed with 14 points.
