Man Forced to Destroy Gamestop Signs
CROFTON -- The chaos on GameStop stocks this week has led a man in Nebraska to lose potential thousands of dollars.
Frank Schnabel usually picks up signs and parts that are unwanted to resell them as decor or furniture.
When a northeast GameStop closed down in January — due to the rise in online sales —Schnabel did what he always does. He accepted their three gigantic name signs from the store, in order to resell.
But after chaos on GameStop's market — with a snap, Schnabel was getting messages from all over asking to buy the signs, as people’s interest in the video game store piqued. Offers ranged up to $3,600 for two of the signs, and an offer to ship them to Massachusetts even.
NCN met him Saturday morning to film the sale of one of the signs -- when everything took a downhill turn.
An attorney from GameStop called the owner who sold to Schnabel. He demanded the signs be destroyed rather than kept or sold.
"My heart sank," said Schnabel, who had been so excited about making a big sale.
The attorney gave him a deadline of four days to provide proof of the products' demise.
