Several panhandle athletes showcased why they belonged at the “Best of the West Classic” track and field meet on Monday at Scottsbluff High School. On the day, 100 personal record performances (54 boys and 46 girls) were recorded along with an additional 13 season bests. Seven area athletes were double event winners and three of those added another gold medal performance in a relay.

Sidney led the way with three double winners on the day. For the Sidney freshman Talissa Tanquary won the girls 400 and 800 Meter along with anchoring the winning 4x800 Relay team. Senior Karly Sylvester earned gold in the girls Shot Put and Discus. Sidney’s Daniel Bashtovoi took the top spot in the boys 800 and 1600 Meter and anchored Sidney’s winning 4x800 Relay team.

Mitchel senior Kadin Perez captured both the boys 100 and 200 meter races and anchored the Tigers’ winning 4x100 Relay team. Sophomore Madison Seiler gave the Gering girls a pair of gold medals by sweeping the 100 and 200 Meter sprints. Scottsbluff freshman Paige Horne earned double gold by winning the girls 100 Meter and 300 Meter hurdles races while Southeast’s Jordan Stoddard took the top spot in the girls High Jump and Long Jump.
