(Peru, Neb.) – It was a battle of the 'Cats Saturday at the Centennial Complex Field in Peru on Saturday as the Bobcats and Wildcats met for the second time this season.
 
The outcome was the same as the teams split a double header with Peru State taking the first 3-2 and Culver-Stockton (Mo.) won the second 4-2.
 
Culver-Stockton is now 20-28 on the season and 16-18 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. Peru State finished its season with an 18-31 overall record and 12-22 in the Heart North. The Bobcats will just miss out of making the conference post-season tournament.

First Game Action
 
All of the scoring came in the third inning of the first game as it was pretty much a pitching duel the rest of the game.

The Wildcats scored two in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the third, Alaina Lacy (Lincoln) started Peru State's inning with a walk. On a wild pitch, Lacy moved to second. Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) reached on a Wildcat error with Lacy moving to third. Bailey Deal (Tinmath, Colo.) doubled deep down the left field line to bring home Lacy with Rothschild stopping at third. After an out, Takia Walker (Enterprise, Ala.) singled thru the hole at second base with Rothschild scoring and Deal stopping at third. Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) singled to short with Deal scoring putting Peru State up 3-2 at that point.
 
Peru State scored their three runs on four hits and committed three errors. Culver-Stockton scored their two runs on four hits and committed one error.
 
Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah), Walker, Wilke, and Deal each had one hit to lead the Bobcats with Walker, Wilke, and Deal each had one RBI in the win.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) through a complete game for the win. Krieser allowed four hits, two earned runs, and struck out eight.

Second Game Action
 
Culver-Stockton scored one in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the fifth to lead 3-0 before Peru State was able to score.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, after an out, Walker singled to right and eventually came around to score on an error by Culver-Stockton.
 
The Wildcats would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh to go up 4-1 at that point.
 
After a pitching change in the bottom of the seventh, Walker started things off with a single for the Bobcats. Following an out, Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) singled to center with Walker stopping at third. Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) entered to run for Farrell. Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) reached on a fielder's choice with Bitz forced out at second, but Walker scored. Rothschild entered to run for Wessel. Lacy singled to left with Rothschild moving to second. Both base runners would advance on a wild pitch, but the next batter flied out to end the game.

Peru State was again plagued by leaving runners in scoring position as they had left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and sixth without scoring.
 
Culver-Stockton scored their four runs on nine hits and committed two errors. The Bobcats scored their two runs on eight hits and also had two miscues.
 
Walker finished her career by going three of four while five others had hits for Peru State. Wessel was credited with the lone RBI.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) tossed a complete game and suffered the loss. Leach gave up nine hits, four earned runs, and struck out six.

The 2021 campaign finished with the most wins since the 2017 team also had 18. Unfortunately, the Bobcats will miss the Heart's post-season tournament as they will finish fifth in the North.
