Huskers fall to top-seed Arkansas in NCAA regional bracket

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Top-seed Arkansas jumped out to an early lead and held off Nebraska in the winners’ bracket of the Fayetteville Regional in the NCAA Baseball Tournament Saturday.
The Razorbacks, helmed by former Husker head coach Dave Van Horn, got off to a fast start with a leadoff homer by Matt Goodheart in the bottom of the first. Arkansas plated two more runs in the bottom of the second, giving the hosts a 3-0 advantage.
Nebraska got one back in the sixth when Luke Roskam’s full-count, two-out single drove in Joe Acker.
The Huskers were unable to stay within striking distance, however, after a wild pitch and a passed ball allowed Arkansas to score twice with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Patrick Wicklander (6-1) got the win for Arkansas, while Chance Hroch (5-3) took the loss for the Huskers.
Nebraska will play NJIT in an elimination game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. CT. The winner will play Arkansas at 8:00 p.m.
If Arkansas wins Sunday, it will claim the regional championship and advance to the super regional. If the Nebraska/NJIT winner beats Arkansas, there will be a Monday rematch for the regional title.
