LINCOLN, Neb. -- Lancaster County authorities have received preliminary autopsy results and identified the deceased person located at Pawnee Lake.

The family of the deceased has requested the identity be withheld until Saturday to give them time to contact family. 

The cause and manner of death is still undetermined pending toxicology results, which could take 4-6 weeks. The west side of Pawnee Lake will be open for recreation traffic this afternoon. 

Human remains were discovered near the southeast Nebraska lake Thursday, and parts of the lake remained closed into early Friday during the ensuing investigation.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said Friday that the remains found at Pawnee Lake appeared to be "purposefully concealed."

The age, sex and race of the person of the person were unknown until the autopsy was completed.

In a Thursday afternoon press briefing, Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner said that the body was discovered in a field by a wooded area. He said the body was covered, but not buried. He said it was not “visible to the human eye.”

Authorities said Friday that they are seeking information from anyone who may have seen something suspicious at the lake in the past 10 days.
