NORFOLK, Neb. -- Over two-thirds of Nebraska counties are under a heat advisory Wednesday, with heat indexes as high as 108 degrees. A total of 63 counties were under heat advisories at 4:00 p.m. CT.

Multiple locations, including Valentine and North Platte, have crossed the triple-digit barrier, while several others are approaching record temperatures for the date.

The heat wave isn't expected to let down any time soon, either, with temperatures projected to match or exceed Thursday's temperatures in many parts of Nebraska.

The National Weather Service advises people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
