GENEVA - Employees of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) at the Youth and Rehabilitation Treatment Center’s (YRTC) Geneva campus are expected to continue working “without major disruption.”

The Geneva YRTC campus will soon undergo the Vacant Building and Excess Land (VBEL) process, ending their lease. This is usually applied to buildings and areas of land that aren’t often used or are too big for their purpose. In this case, the YRTC Geneva campus had parts of the building that weren't being used, costing the state money. Once the process is complete, campus ownership will be transferred to another group. DHHS says they will work with the new owner to determine the best use of the Administration Building.

With that said, DHHS intends for all 32 current YRTC employees in Geneva to stay on staff, and work without major disruptions. The staff will be updated if any changes in ownership occur and when the VBEL process is complete. Consisting of workers from Children and Human services, Medicaid, and Long-Term care divisions, the 32 employees at YRTC makes it one of the top employers in the town of just over 2,000 residents.
