Farmers market to be extra special this weekend in Norfolk
NORFOLK -- This Saturday -- September the 25th -- is set to be overflowing with events: A color run, a poker run, cycling at the Maskenthine Lake Recreation Area, Harvest & History at Verges Park, the Rally for Recovery, and perhaps most anticipated: Oktoberfest.
Farmers market manager Monica Bruning said that's why the market is bringing clowns, balloons, and a longer time period for the market this weekend.
"It's the perfect time of year [...] you still have summer produce, plus you have the fall produce," Bruning said. She noted tomatoes, gourds, onions, and baked goods among the many colorful products.
The farmers market started in 1981, which means they're celebrating 40 years now -- making this big weekend even bigger.
"And this year, we were invited to be part of the Downtown Association. This is our first year doing that and we love the whole atmosphere of this location," Bruning said. "I love working with people. I also enjoy growing vegetables, so it's the perfect combination."
