#5 St. Mary's rides QB to sixth straight win
O'NEILL - It wasn't the original game plan to have Aidan Hedstrom run the ball 30 times, but it worked out well for St. Mary's anyway.
The senior quarterback rushed for 233 yards and five touchdowns, passing for two others as the fifth-ranked Cardinals beat Creighton 48-14.
Hedstrom was relied on much more than the original gameplan, after starting halfback Gabe Pribil went down with a leg injury in the second quarter.
Senior Tate Thompson also helped shoulder the load on the ground, carrying the ball 19 times for 125 yards. St. Mary's tallied 391 yards on the ground in total.
Creighton also had to adjust their offensive game plan after losing their top rusher. Easton Pavlik went down on the Bulldogs' first play from scrimmage and did not return.
As a result, Creighton struggled to move the ball consistently against a St. Mary's defense giving up just 10 points per game. The Bulldogs were held to just 151 total yards of offense.
St. Mary's hasn't lost in the regular season since a 45-8 loss to Twin Loup on Oct. 25, 2019.
