(Peru, Neb.) – On Saturday, October 24, the Peru State defense was alive for the second straight week as the Bobcats shut out William Penn University 28-0 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
 
The 'Cats would improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division. The Statesmen fell to 1-7 on the year and 0-2 in North Division play.
 
This is the first time in 15 years where the 'Cats have had two shutouts in the same season. In 2006, Peru State had three shutouts – one of which was a forfeit.
 
1st Half
 
The 'Cats would get on the board through the air as Joey Dominguez (Von Ormy, Texas) tossed a six-yard touchdown to Dremel Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) with 10:13 remaining in the first quarter. After the PAT by Shane McInerney (Galway, Ireland), Peru State would lead 7-0.
 
The connection of Dominguez and Jackson would strike again. This time would be a 31-yard touchdown pass with 2:56 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT would be good by McInerney as the 'Cats now led 14-0.
 
The running game would get in on the action as Quinton Hawkins (Richmond, Va.) would get a three-yard touchdown run. McInerney would make his third PAT of the day to make the score 21-0 with 2:11 remaining until half time.
 
2nd Half
 
Peru State would score on a six-yard touchdown run by Hawkins as McInerney would make his fourth PAT of the day with 3:47 remaining in the game. That would be the final score of the contest.
 
Stats
 
Peru State would rack up 302 yards of offense compared to just 170 for the Statemen.
 
Dominguez would complete 13-18 passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Hawkins would finish the day with 24 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Ki'Jana Owens (North Platte) carried the ball 13 times for 75 yards.
 
Jackson caught five balls for 62 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Orreon Finley (Memphis, Tenn.) was second on the team with two catches for 33 yards. Jarrius Anderson (Cordova, Tenn.) caught two passes on the day.
 
Kobe Windham (Petal, Miss.) would lead the Bobcats defensive in total tackles with seven – six of them solos.
 
Parker Gutschow (Elkhorn) added five total tackles on the day – one of which was solo.
 
Michael Lombardi (Peru) finished with five total tackles – four solos. Lombardi would also have one sack for a loss of three and two tackles for losses for four yards. Nate Barbary (Rockford, Ill.) was credited for five total tackles – with two of them being solos. Barbary would have one sack for a loss of three and a tackle for loss for three yards as well.
 
Ethan Skarmas (Palm Desert, Calif.) finished with five tackles on the day. Skarmas would also have one tackle for loss for three yards.
 
Delonte Hood (Washington, D.C.) would have one interception for 21 yards on the return.
 
Upcoming Game
 
This week is probably going to be the biggest game on the 'Cats schedule thus far into the season. The Peru State team will be traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, to take on #4 Grand View University Vikings 8-0, 2-0. Game time is scheduled for noon.
