STANTON COUNTY, Neb. – An early-morning collision involving two vehicles and a deer has sent multiple people to the hospital.

The crash was reported 13 miles east of Norfolk on Highway 275 shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office said Norma Zuniga, of Norfolk, was driving eastbound with her adult son when their pickup struck a deer and swerved into another lane of traffic, where it collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by Allen Guenther, of West Point.

Both Zuniga and her son were trapped in their vehicle and had to be removed using hydraulic equipment. Both were then transported to Faith Regional in Norfolk. According to Sheriff Mike Unger, both had "serious to critical injuries."

The driver of the oncoming vehicle was also taken to the hospital, but with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles are considered a total loss.
