PEETZ, CO — Police say one person was arrested after a suspected drunk driver struck a Peetz school bus with children on board Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened just before 2:00 p.m. Wednesday southwest of Peetz.

Authorities say an SUV hit a school bus loaded with seven children and the driver. The SUV also hit two other vehicles and attempted to leave the scene.

The SUV came to a stop about a half-mile from the scene, however, due to a broken axle.

No injuries were reported in the incident. The driver of the SUV, who was not identified in the information given to News Channel Nebraska, was booken into Logan County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

The investigation is ongoing and more information is expected to be available in the coming days.

Peetz Public Schools had let out of school early at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday due to the winter storm moving into the area. According to the National Weather Service in Boulder the area was expecting 3-6 inches total, but had five inches of snow on the ground by early afternoon.

Reports provided to the National Weather Service indicates the area received closer to 8-10 inches of snow in the storm.
