Law enforcement conducts sex offender sweep in SE Nebraska

BEATRICE – A regional sweep to check for sex offender compliance with the law is being undertaken by local and federal officials.
Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson says his office and the U.S. Marshal’s Service planned and coordinated a county-wide compliance check operation, involving multiple agencies in Gage, Johnson and Pawnee Counties.
The effort involved law enforcement agencies sending investigators to the addresses of persons listed on the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry list.
In Gage County alone, 64 persons are listed on the registry and by law, must report to the county sheriff’s office information including residency, work, vehicles and schools they are attending.
Gustafson says several investigations are being conducted for possible violations of the Sex Offender Registration Act as a result of the sweep. It was not clear how many violations were uncovered.
Involved in the sweep were the Gage County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s Service, Beatrice Police, Wymore Police, Nebraska State Patrol and Sheriff’s Offices in Johnson and Pawnee Counties.
