Cheyenne County sheriff on lookout for good behavior this holiday season
SIDNEY Neb.-The Cheyenne County Sheriff's office is partnering with Main Street Games in Sidney this winter in hopes of encouraging good behavior from the kids of Cheyenne County.
Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs and Chief Deputy Jim Bush stopped by the three-month old arcade and game shop Thursday to purchase $200 worth of $10 gift cards to hand out to young people around the community they catch being good.
"We want to promote things that high school kids, grade school kids in town, recognize when they do something good, and what would be a good way to reward that," Frerichs said. "What better way to reward kids that are doing good things in the community [and] good thing in the schools," the Sheriff continued.
Nick and Leslie Merlino, owners of Main Street Games, are happy to keep local kids occupied. From their storefront at their 1038 Illinois Ave, the Merlino's offer an arcade, board games, logic games, comic books, and posters. They look forward to adding board game nights and tournaments in the near future.
The program is funded using the Sheriff's Department's "No Shave November" fund, money they collect from deputies that would like to where a full beard between November and March. This isn't their first good deed either, the Sheriff's Department funds everything from scholarships to trophies for softball tournaments with the "No Shave" money.
Sheriff Frerichs hopes to continue the program year round with Main Street Games and possibly other local businesses.
"We might branch out, so far we are starting right here because this is a kids centered activity," Frerichs said.
If you are looking to reward a kid in your life this holiday season, Main Street Games gift cards are available in the store during regular business hours.
