BEATRICE – Southeast Nebraska residents got the opportunity Saturday to recycle old electronics, including computer equipment.

"A lot of old equipment...laptops, towers and some old, old monitors. They have lead in the glass, so they do charge a little bit...five to ten dollars on the average one. People are paying that and have been real good about getting rid of what they have."

Keep Beatrice Beautiful Executive Director Jerry Bucy says the collection was staffed by volunteers. K-B-B contracted with Star City Recycling to collect and haul items away.

"They have outlets for it. They've been doing this for years and they recycle everything possible on it....the plastic, to the metal, to the components on them."

The recycling event was nine a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Indian Creek Mall parking lot.
