HOWELLS - Pierce looked comfortable on their season-opening road trip to Howells-Dodge as the Bluejays outscored the Jaguars 41-34 for a huge victory.

Pierce started the game about as well as any team could, scoring 14 straight points and keeping Howells-Dodge scoreless after one.

Travis Emory got the Bluejay scoring started with a corner three, while senior Deon Watts and sophomore Keaton Frazier continued to find open scoring lanes.

In the second quarter, the Jaguars lit a fire thanks to strong post play from Nathan Hegemann, a steal and score from Dane Meyer, a three-pointer from Kolten Klossen and playmaking from Oscar Dominguez.

Howells-Dodge closed the gap quickly and only trailed 21-14 at halftime.

Pierce outscored Howells-Dodge by a point in a low scoring third quarter, as the Jays held a 27-19 lead going into the final quarter.

More scoring ensued on both sides as Oscar Dominguez scored 7 points in the quarter in an attempt to keep the Jaguars alive.

Keaton Frazier denied any Jaguar opportunity, scoring 8 points in the quarter, including a huge three to increase the Bluejay lead from four points to seven points with less than two minutes remaining.

Pierce held on for the 41-34 win to start the season 1-0, while Howells-Dodge falls to 0-1.

Keaton Frazier led all scorers with 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in the Bluejay win. Deon Watts had 11 for Pierce.

Oscar Dominguez led the way for Howells-Dodge with 12 points, as Kolten Klossen scored 8 points.
