Kearney relies on early lead to power past Norfolk on the road
NORFOLK - The Bearcats traveled up to Norfolk on Friday night to square off against the Panthers and came away with their 8th win on the season.
Kearney found early success scoring the basketball, knocking down a few three's and finding ways to score in transition off of rebounds, which allowed the Bearcats to grab an early 12-6 lead after a quarter.
Kearney managed to keep Norfolk at bay through the first half, leading 26-19. The Bearcats never really let the Panthers close the gap, as the lead grew to 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Norfolk rallied and brought the score within 7 points, but with just a minute left, the Panthers ran out of time and the Bearcats pulled out a 48-39 victory.
Paige Mailahn lead the way for Kearney, scoring 11 points. Kennidy Garner and Harley Straka both finished with 10 and Addie Helmbrecht tacked on 8.
Bo Caskey and Skylar Indra scored 11 points each for Norfolk and Tasha Eisenhauer tacked on 10 points.
Kearney moves to 8-5 after the win, while Norfolk falls to 4-10.
