Pierce's rally falls short in season-ending thriller against Ord
ALBION - In win or go home games, both teams leave it all out on the court.
For the Pierce Bluejays, it just wasn't enough as the Ord Chanticleers managed to stay alive with a 43-35 victory in the Class C1-8 Sub District first round on Monday night.
The Bluejays got hot early, quickly jumping out to an 11-5 lead midway through the first quarter. Ord wasn't fazed and worked their way back to an 11-11 tie at the end of one.
The Chanticleers and Bluejays traded leads in the second quarter, until Ord freshman Jordan Williams got a massive steal and score at the end of the first half, giving Ord the 22-17 lead.
Both teams struggled to score early in the second quarter, but Ord managed to increase the lead to nine by the end of the third quarter.
The Chanticleers led by as many as 11 points in the final quarter, but the Bluejays found a spark. A few big shots by Deon Watts and Travis Emory, plus the offensive scoring and defensive playmaking by maestro Keaton Frazier, pulled Pierce within three points.
From there, a few big turnovers by the Bluejays stunted the rally and Ord held on for the 43-35 victory and advance to a matchup with the #1 seed in the Sub District, Boone Central, on Tuesday night.
The Chanticleers were led by Talan Bruha with 12 points. Blake Hinrichs, Jordan Williams and Colton Thompson all finished with 8 points, plus Elijah Pollards 7 points.
Keaton Frazier led the way for the Bluejays, scoring a game high 16 points and 11 rebounds, securing a double-double in the loss. Brock Collison was second on the team in scoring with 9 points.
Pierce ends the season with a 8-13 record after the loss, while Ord improves to 11-12 and will put their season on the line against Boone Central on Tuesday at 6 pm in Albion.
