KEARNEY, Neb. — A Texas man is behind bars after police say he stole a taxi in Nebraska and refused to surrender to officers.

It happened early Sunday morning in Kearney. In court documents, police say a cab driver called to report the theft. He said he was driving a man, later determined to be 32-year-old Pedro Solis Jr., who became argumentative. The driver parked and left the vehicle. Then, Solis Jr. got in the driver’s seat and drove away.

Police say officers found the vehicle a few minutes later and couldn’t get Solis Jr. to leave the vehicle. Officers deployed a K-9, which bit Solis Jr. in the shoulder. Multiple officers eventually pulled him from the vehicle and arrested him.

The theft and interaction with police happened in the area of Central Ave. a few blocks south of downtown.

Solis is lodged in the Buffalo County Jail on theft and obstruction charges. A judge set his bail at 10% of $20,000. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Buffalo County Court on May 8.
